On Sunday 8 July 6 members of Belvoir Archers travelled to Hucknall to shoot in the Nottinghamshire County Archery Society Outdoor championships hosted by Rolls Royce Bowmen of Sherwood. Although there was a lot of discussion about how tricky the wind was in the morning for the longest distance the weather was fairly kind and the torrential downpour only started once everyone was sitting in the clubhouse for the raffle and presentations.
The round for the ladies was the Hereford (6 dozen at 80 yards, 4 at 60, 2 at 50) with Sue Haynes coming 3rd Lady Recurve shooting a Personal Best of 970, adding 29 points to her previous best. Vicky Jones shot to handicap with 677 to take her handicap group.
The round for the gents was the York, 6 dozen at 100 yards, 4 at 80 and 2 at 60.
Bryan Haynes came third in the gents longbow, Dave Seymour gained second and Steve Gamble completed a clean sweep of the class to become the first archer to take the title for 4 consecutive years. Both Dave and Steve were disappointed with their scores as Dave fell short of the score for Master Bowman and Steve missed out on the third score needed to qualify for Grand Master Bowman.
Year bars were also awarded to Dave Seymour, Bryan Haynes, Martin Jones and Vicky Jones for the Nottinghamshire Clout Team that competed in the East Midlands Inter Counties Clout at Kettering in March 2012.
The Nottinghamshire County Archery Society Target Archery Teams 2012 for the Tri-County and Thoresby shoots will be announced soon, watch this space!
