On Sunday 3 June 6 members of Belvoir Archers travelled to Sherwood Archers ground near Southwell to shoot a FITA round and did well on a day when the rain never stopped.
For the ladies the FITA round is 12 dozen arrows spread equally across 70, 60, 50 and 30 metres, with the scoring area becoming smaller at the 2 shortest distances. Making a strong return from a break in competition Sue Haynes scored 1002 with her recurve to take third place in the ladies recurve section. Vicky Jones shot her first FITA and enjoyed the day, despite the rain.
For the gents the distances are 90, 70, 50, 30 metres, again with a smaller scoring area at the shortest distances. Steve Gamble shot 591 with his longbow to win his section, with Dave Seymour coming third and Bryan Haynes close behind Dave in Fourth Place.
This was Steve’s third qualifying score for Master Bowman status 2012; this award is not easy to achieve as it can only be made by Archery GB and the scores have to be made at record status FITA or York shoots.
This was the third of four selection shoots for the Nottinghamshire team; at this stage Steve Gamble and Dave Seymour will definitiley be selected for the gents longbow section of the team, with the last palce to be decided on the county championship shoot in July.
A shame about the weather, but some good scores on the day. Thanks to Sherwood Archers for a well-run shoot.
