On Sunday 27 May 5 members of Belvoir Archers travelled to the tournament hosted by Welbeck Archers.
The weather was the best of the year so far with hot sunshine all day, although the cooling breeze did make the longest distance more of a challenge. The round for the gents was a York (6 dozen arrows at 100 yards, 4 dozen at 80 and 2 at 60).
Dave Seymour shooting longbow came third with a score of 325 and while Steve Gamble scored a personal best 459 to win the gents longbow section of the shoot and claim his Red Rose award and his first Grand Master Bowman (GMB) classification award. Steve needs to repeat this performance to become one of the top 5% of longbow archers in the country to achieve the GMB classification.
The round for the ladies was the Hereford (6 dozen at 80 yards, 4 dozen at 60 and 2 dozen at 50). Vicky Denton-Jones shot the Hereford for the first time with her recurve bow and scored 722, reducing her handicap by 1 point and missing out on a first class score by only 1 point.
