Sunday saw our 2nd Winter Windsor tournament with over 40 archers from around the region competing. At 7,30am, when the field party came to setup, the field was blanketed in thick fog, which, at that time of the morning, you could not see the 60 yard targets from the shooting line. Alan, Dennis and Tony were sent off in to the fog to move the sheep from the field by the targets to the safe narrow field area down behind the shooting line, this a bit worrying as Alan had a smile on his face and wellington boots on his feet!
Luckily, as the archers arrived, the fog thinned out. Mario Stankovic, the judge, was able to see the full safety zone by around 11, 10 so the tournament kicked off. Sighters were interesting, recurves and compounds not see the targets clearly through their scopes to see where the arrows had landed, welcome to the Longbow zone those of us on target 8 onwards thought. By lunch time, the fog had cleared and the sun came out and we had a non windy day at Belvoir Archers.
The tournament was finished by around 4pm and everyone made their way to the country club for the presentation of awards by our Lord Paramount, Terry Davey – President of the Nottinghamshire Archery Society, and Sue Haynes, Treasurer of Belvoir Archers.
Belvoir Archers took a good selection of the trophies with Sue Haynes winning the Ladies Recurve with a Personal Best of 836, Peter Emery winning the Junior Gents Longbow, Steve Gamble coming third Gents Longbow, Steve Burdett coming third Gents Compound. Alan Carter-Davies won the Senior Handicap Adjusted award (competing in his third tournament after finishing his beginners course in early June), and Peter Emery won the Junior Handicap Adjusted award. Bryan Haynes, Tournament Organiser, shot a Personal Best of 407 with his Longbow.
5 county records were broken during the day, well done to those archers
Once again, the Belvoir Archer Castle trophies were hand made by Maurice Clarke of MGC Designs.
We would like to thank the club members who helped out during the day, Terry Davey our Lord Paramount, our judge Mario Stankovic, Julie at Barnstone Country Club for their hospitality during the day, Maurice for the trophies and Sue Haynes for her hard work in providing the results on the day.
