On Saturday 17 September Bryan Haynes and Steve Gamble travelled to Bowmen of Glen to shoot their FITA Star tournament.
The wind blew all day and all bowstyles were finding that it was dropping the arrows; just for some extra challenge several brisk showers passed over during the day, putting a premium on the skill of swiftly putting on waterproofs and then shooting as before (useful tip; a plastic carrier bag over the boot helps it slip smoothly through the over-trousers).
After the 90m distance Bryan was leading the inter-Belvoir competition by a point! However, Bryan was unable to build on his early lead and finished on 345. At the end of the day the first three in the Gents longbow shoot were all over 600, Steve coming third on a PB 603. Within that score were Nottinghamshire records for the 50m and 30m distances; the 30m score is also an EMAS record (all subject to ratification).
